Welcome to Encruzilhada dos Livros
If you’ve landed here, chances are one of three things happened:
- you stumbled upon my Portuguese bookish ramblings and got curious,
- I showed up at your doorstep asking for an ARC,
- or maybe I invited you for an interview.
Either way: welcome.
What’s Encruzilhada dos Livros?
The name means Book Crossroads. It’s a literary space where languages, readers, and stories meet.
The word “encruzilhada” — crossroads — comes with cultural weight in Brazil. In Afro-Brazilian traditions, the crossroads is where paths meet and new journeys begin. It’s also the space of Eshu (Exu), a trickster and messenger figure, who embodies movement, communication, and possibility.
Naming my channel after this is both homage and metaphor: books, like crossroads, are places of encounter. Every reading is a passage, every community of readers a constellation of paths.
At the heart of this project is Exu Lê, a book club I co-founded back in 2015. It’s been going strong for more than a decade, bringing together readers from Brazil, Canada, and other parts of the world. Every month, we vote on a book, read together, and meet for a final discussion. Always online, always free, always about making literature a shared ritual.
Who am I?
I’m Claudia, a Brazilian journalist living in Canada.
I’ve worked for years in journalism, and books have always been at the center of my work and life. My reading life crosses languages and geographies: Brazilian fiction and poetry, Canadian literature, prize-winning novels, indie gems, and voices that grapple with identity, migration, and belonging.
Like many expats, I buy books wherever I go — whether in North America, when visiting Brazil, or when browsing international publishers. That mix shapes the channel and the community: rooted in Portuguese, but speaking across languages.
